Speechd-Up

Speakup to Speech Dispatcher interface

Maintainer: Hynek Hanke <hanke@brailcom.org>

Index:

Introduction

The aim of the (currently unmaintained) Speechd-Up project was to give users the possibility to use the Speakup screen reader with software synthesis. It worked as an interface daemon between Speakup and Speech Dispatcher, who took care of the software synthesis.

The approach with providing console access through special kernel code however proved to be problematic in many aspects and given the current developments in accessibility technologies, there are now other options to get similar results. Thus the authors decided to stop development and maintenance of Speechd-Up to be able to devote their time to other projects.

You can still get the latest developemnt version via CVS. Be aware however that it is deprecated and most likely not working with the current version of Speakup.
